Steve Kunin Director
Steve’s primary focus is on originating, structuring, and executing on real estate and other community development finance transactions as part of the Next Street Capital team.
Steve brings five years of real estate, investment, finance and community development experience to Next Street. Prior to joining Next Street, he was a Director at Pembrook Community Capital. Along with Gloria Lee, he built from the ground up, and participated in, management of the Pembrook Community Capital division that focused on New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) and renewable energy investments in low-income communities nationally. Mr. Kunin was responsible for working with project sponsors, government agencies, financial institutions and other professionals to generate deal flow for Pembrook Community Capital and then leading those transactions to closing.
Prior to joining Pembrook, Steve was a vice president at Citi Community Capital, the community development finance arm of Citigroup, and brings with him an extensive network of real estate developers, small business operators, and other financial intermediaries that originate deal flow for Next Street. At Citi, he was responsible for structuring, underwriting and managing private equity and tax credit investments focusing on NMTCs and Historic Tax Credits. Also at Citi, Steve managed a portfolio in excess of $225 million and was responsible for deploying and managing two rounds of NMTC allocations totaling $131 million.
Steve began his career as a management consultant with Deloitte Consulting, providing technology and operations advisory services to Fortune 500 clients. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with honors from Boston University and a Masters in Business Administration with honors from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
