Spencer Lau

Head of Next Street Institute

Spencer Lau serves as Head of the Next Street Institute, the firm’s economic and business research arm focused on the forces shaping America’s small business economy. In this role, he leads the Institute’s research and thought leadership agenda, translating data and insights into strategies for business, government, and civic leaders.

During his time at Next Street, Spencer has worked across public, private, and social sectors on issues shaping small business growth and economic opportunity. His work examines the role of small businesses in industrial supply chains and community and infrastructure development, as well as how public policy, effective government, and public-private partnerships can strengthen businesses, workers, and communities.

Prior to Next Street, Spencer worked at L.E.K. Consulting and PwC Strategy&, where he advised clients on growth and supply chain strategies. Spencer holds bachelors degrees in Economics and Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University.
